Casa Balboni by Map Studio

Casa Balboni originally designed by Carlo Scarpa has been redesigned in 2020 by Map Studio . The house is situated in Venice, Italy. Description Towards the end of 2017 we were commissioned to restore Balboni’s House by Carlo Scarpa in Venice. His work is announced on the front facing the garden with a prominent reinforced concrete avant-corps, which encloses the entrances to the house. On the ground floor, the spacious living room reveals the whole width of the house and overlooks the terrace on the Grand Canal, most of all the floorings are in Prun stone slabs with strips of Lasa marble in good conditions. All the walls and ceilings of the house, apart from those of the service areas on the ground floor, were originally finished with ivory-white Venetian-style stucco lucido. Unfortunately, over time the surfaces in stucco had undergone an inexorable yellowing, due to the oxidation of the components and to the presence of tobacco smoke. Added to this was irreparable damage

Ranch Dressing by Buttrick Projects Architecture + Design

Ranch Dressing is an inspiring two-story house located in Mill Valley, California, designed in 2016 by Buttrick Projects Architecture + Design . Description A series of volumes was inserted at the perimeter of this 60’s boomerang plan to remedy the staid quality of the previous interior geometry and make the landscape more tangible from inside. Pillowed wood siding and large windows inserted at strategic locations add textural relief to the walls. A neutral white interior envelope, washed with daylight, becomes a background for the clients’ art collection. The garage with studio above acts as a sculptural element and also provides an edge to the entry court. Prospect House by Swivel Interiors

Prospect House is a modern house located Seattle, Washington, designed in 2020 by Swivel Interiors . Description Long-time residents of Seattle’s Queen Anne neighborhood, the clients were passionate about staying on the hill, but also deeply desired a new modern home. After an exhaustive multi-year search they found a hillside location with breath-taking views of the downtown Seattle skyline, Puget Sound and Olympics. Best of all is a straight-line view of the iconic Space Needle. The steeply-sloped site created a challenging design and build project. The clients asked for views to be maximized on every floor while also creating a year-round living opportunity. Although the architecture, interior finishes and furnishings were both inspired and shaped by the desire to allow the panoramic City and Sound vista hold center court, the confident design lines of the home and thoughtful material selections never take a back seat. Design Plan: From street view the house rea

Orchard Stone House by Rado Iliev

Orchard Stone House located in eastern Bulgaria, has been designed in 2020 by Rado Iliev . Description The building serves as a temporary accommodation for the workers on a fruit orchard. Project’s goal was to provide ample accommodation and work space located in an area of outstanding beauty. There are long distance views towards the Stara Planina Mountain to north. A lake stretching to east is a home for a number of wild birds. At Southwest lays the large orchard. Concept for the building draws clues from nuts structure with robust pair of stone walls housing a more delicate interior. 30m pier-like terrace lays perpendicular to the accommodation block and stretches towards the water to northeast offering wide angle views towards the unspoiled nature. Design aimed to sequence the visual experiences from approach and moving thru the building. Visitors reach the building via a dirt road from west. At this point the pond is out of site. At entry you are invited in

Saddle Peak Residence by Aux Architecture

Located in Calabasas, California, the Saddle Peak Residence has been designed in 2018 by Aux Architecture . Description The design of this home arose out of a series of site challenges and constraints. The one-acre property and existing home sat within a protected area of the Santa Monica Mountains. New restrictions on development made it unfeasible to add anything outside the existing building footprint. The existing home had little architectural value: it was dark inside, and it had no contextual relationship to the site. Working within the existing footprint and rooflines, the design is a dramatic transformation from a generic tract house to a custom home that is responsive to its context. It is a hybrid of modern ideals paired with conventional volumes. The small, dark interior rooms were replaced with an open floor plan. Large incisions were made to let in light, views, and to create an inside-to-outside connection. A composition of dark standing seam metal and vertic
