RGV House by Dank Architectes

Completely redesigned in 2019 by Dank Architectes , RGV House is a modern two-story house located in Caluire-et-Cuire, France. Description The RGV project is built around an old typical one story house built in the 50’s. The spirit of this renovation/extension was to connect the beautiful garden and the pool to the house In the 50’s, houses were not build with this idea in mind, design of windows and doors were just done for a useful purpose, not leisure. Nowadays things have changed and we want to enjoy our exteriors as much as interiors. With this idea in mind, DANK designed a concrete extension that reconciliates and intertwines those two spaces. House of Sweeping Shadows by Abin Design Studio

Designed in 2018 by Abin Design Studio , the House of Sweeping Shadows is a contemporary manifestation of a leisure house located in Bansberia, India. Description This Project explores the idea of re-defining Identity through interstitial space in post construction architecture. The client wanted a contemporary manifestation for his Leisure House. The challenge – it was already half built by unskilled contractors. The plot, an extension to his current residence, had an incomplete and abandoned 2-storey structure overlooking a pond. Avoiding demolition, this was retained as a sustainable choice only with an intervention of self-supporting metal structure with minimal anchorage on the existing building. This ensured structural safety and distinction between New from Old. The inadequate unplanned space, was increased by adding metal decks. This introduced the concept of semi open space that characterizes regional architecture. Wrapped with an MS screen, this interstitial spac

Powell Street House by Robert Simeoni Architects

Located in Melbourne, Australia, the Powell Street House has been redesigned in 2018 by Robert Simeoni Architects . Description Occupying a compact site in South Yarra, this existing 1930’s duplex comprised a ground floor and first floor apartment, each with its own external access. The owners wished to unite these two dwellings to form a single residence. The existing house had a quiet interior and muted light and the design was developed in response to this with a deliberate quietness, and the creation of a long diagonal view through the existing shallow floor plan. The ground floor addition formed a double height volume which incorporates a carefully located high level window and was conceived as a quiet space, with ambiguous connections between the existing and the new, the outside and inside. Bathrooms were designed with a selection of materials evocative of the 1930’s architecture of the original house. The addition, and the new architectural elements generally, r

Casa San Antonio by Jaime Juárez Arquitectura

Casa San Antonio is an inspiring minimalist house located in Morelia, Mexico, designed in 2017 by Jaime Juárez Arquitectura . Description The trapezoidal tracing of the property is what defined the construction of this house into three clearly settled volumes. Vegetation also plays a protagonist role in the design of this house, both outdoors and indoors. The exterior trees enclose the house generating distinct tons of shades and colours during the different seasons of the year. Within the interior, the unruly green vegetation, contrasts with the stone floors and solid walls, reaching a perfect sense of balance. The entrance, a double height lobby that creates contrasting sensations and distinct visual ending points originated by water mirrors, light shafts, a tree and a staircase. The walls that shape this area, divide the spaces into private and public areas. The ground floor, is organized into two blocks each with a different purpose: The left side, is a white solid
