Pine House by Bryant Alsop

Located in Melbourne, Australia, this Edwardian house has been recently redesigned by Bryant Alsop . Description Presented with an Edwardian house wrapped in a stoic 1990s renovation, the conversation quickly turned to what to keep, re-use or remove. The natural response was to demolish and start again, but with strong bones, and being structurally sound, a more sustainable approach was adopted. The rear volume was maximized, removing a low mezzanine structure, and a vaulted ceiling then revealed and celebrated with the addition of exposed timber trusses. Opportunity was seized with the insertion of a double height window that floods the south facing living areas with light. Materials have been selected for their honesty and robustness, with a clear directive from the owners that finishes needed to be durable and suitable for real family life. Apart-hotel Svatý Vavřinec by ov-a

ov-a studio designed an apart-hotel – contemporary, sustainable, alpine architecture that offers more than just accommodation. Located in the mountain town and ski resort Pec pod Sněžkou, Czech Republic, four apart-hotel buildings erected on a roof-meadow continue the thread and the qualities of the urban matrix and further develop and elaborate on them. Description The suite houses were built on the lot of a former store from the 80s. Four of the houses are located on the „meadow“ – a green roof above the shops in the parterre of the building. The space between the individual houses offers views of the far horizons of the mountain meadows. The atmosphere among these houses is intimate but neighbourly. The roof garden covers commercial spaces and garages. The mountain town and ski resort Pec pod Sněžkou originated from the earlier original buildings in the valley, that expanded toward the surrounding hills. Slowly, large tourist accommodation and hotels emerged. The c

Lounge T by Destilat

This inspiring rustic chalet located in Tirol, Romania, has been recently completed by Destilat . Description The premise for this concept was a respectful approach towards the original substance, for example the conservation of the workshop’s existing floor with its decades-old patina as well as the original steel girders. All components are carefully incorporated into the original substance and have similar qualities when it comes to haptics and patination. Reducing the used components‘ colour and material selection is particularly important for the project’s look and feel. All newly introduced wood elements were treated in accordance with the Japanese Shou Sugi Ban method. For this ancient technique for wood finishing, surfaces are first charred and then oiled. With this process the free-standing furniture elements, like old wooden chairs as well as tables, counters, benches, all become one harmonious unit. Two cubic structures made of scaled sheet metal for the vest
