House in Sion by Savioz Fabrizzi Architectes

Originally built in 1860, this inspiring single family house located in Ormône, Sion, Switzerland, has been redesigned in 2016 by Savioz Fabrizzi Architectes . Description Situated in the old village of ormône, this house was built in 1860, and then altered over the years. it stands in the middle of an area of the village that has tremendous character, and consists of a masonry base of natural stone whose upstream part rises up to form the backbone of the building and whose downstream part is surmounted by a timber structure. the timber part is simply raised. the masonry part is altered. this stone spine, which links the whole project together, is extruded in a kind of “chimney” to the east and extends to the north to form an annexe. the rustic simplicity of this building is accentuated by the treatment of the outer walls, which are given unity by a coating of simple render, applied both to stones from which render had been removed so they could be re-pointed in a style

Sunnyside Townhouse by AAMP Studio

AAmp Studio was commissioned to renovate and add a third-floor addition to a narrow 100-year old townhouse in Toronto’s West End. Description The interior was completely reimagined as an open-plan space that allows more natural light, and a greater flexibility for the clients. Two Summer Residences by Kapsimalis Architects

Located in Imerovigli, on the Greek island of Santarini, these two traditional residences have been recently redesigned by Kapsimalis Architects . Description The two holiday residences are located in the traditional village of Imerovigli, on the island of Santorini. They are parts of a single old house that was destroyed during the 1956 earthquake. The remaining caves inside the volcanic earth that used to compose the old house are reconstructed, keeping unchanged the initial architecture form of it. The two houses face South to the volcano and to the Aegean Sea. The entrance, in the level of the pedestrian street of the village, leads to the terrace of the houses and through two exterior staircases to the level of the houses’ yards, as it emerges, due to the fact that the plot is downstream the pedestrian road and placed on the steep incline of the island’s Caldera.
