Bond House by Alexis Dornier

This inspiring residence located in Ubud, Indonesia, has been designed in 2019 by Alexis Dornier . Description The cross is one of the oldest diagrams of space organisation in architectural history. BOND is designed through the interplay of intersecting elements coming together to shape planefields for gathering and recreation on all levels- a junction that unifies elements traveling in all directions. This work of lines frames the lush surrounding and forms no obstacle to the eye that is free for gazing. One approaches the building head on and right onto the pool area which forms the dominating main axis of the house, splitting the living room into two living spaces. Together with the pool area they form the main gathering level. Description The Ledge House clients asked us to design a new home that would resonate with the history of the Connecticut Valley, include a material palette that is environmentally friendly, and work with the challenging site on a large rock ledge. We removed an existing cabin that had been expanded in unsuccessful ways over time by a previous owner; we were able to reuse the cabin’s foundation (which saved money and reduced construction waste) & add to it to simplify the footprint of the building while amplifying the program. The form of the house was inspired by indigenous barns of the area as well as the nearby, historic West Cornwall Covered Bridge. The living room, dining room and kitchen form the nucleus of a large breezeway through the house; the breezeway was strategically positioned to take advantage of the views to the valley, the uphill cross-ven

In order to reduce the size, it has to be stacked a level on top of the other into a cube space to provide a square floor plan. Not only the square-shape plans, but also pulling out and eliminate an unnecessary space would help creating a compact function together with the best utilizing all the circulation. There are three bedrooms, a living room, a dining, a kitchen, and a common room for multi-purpose activities for serving all family’s members, which is a young couple with three kids.
