Stockroom Cottage by Architects Eat

Stockroom Cottage is a rustic home located in Fitzroy, Australia, designed in 2020 by Architects Eat . Description Craft, is at the core of the project stemming from the history of the Stockroom, once the home of a guitar maker and potter. The project was to combine a warehouse and adjacent workers cottage into a single family home in the inner city suburb of Fitzroy, Melbourne. Externally the warehouse shell and cottage are kept intact, with minor restorative work, while the internal expression is anecdotally influenced by the Venetian and Brazilian Modernism, and manifested perhaps due to recent travelling to these locations. The main circulation spine is envisaged as a via in Venice with vistas through to the garden beyond and living spaces that veer off the sides. The original brick boundary wall is left exposed. A relic, providing texture, now partially covered in climbing plants. New concrete wall on the other side juxtapose with a new texture, creating a tension

Larus Marinus by Harley Graham Architects

Larus Marinus is a multigenerational family retreat located in Byron Bay, Australia, designed in 2019 by Harley Graham Architects . Description Sited within the valley of the eastern most seaside town of Wategos Beach, Larus Marinus is a multigenerational family retreat that perches lightly on the steeply contoured site, overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Responding to the clients brief the project is part of a multigenerational arrangement in which a mother, and her daughters family sought to establish a new mode of living with the flexibility of two dwellings. While providing home that could be used by the place for entertaining and accommodating extended family and friends. Referencing the Larus Marinus (the Great black-backed gull) was the strategy employed to resolve the scale and siting of the houses. Suspended above the vegetation like a bird in flight the large cantilevers to the Eastern façade make the building appear as though it is floating on a single level. W

Bauhaus Villa 1936 by Loft Kolasiński

Bauhaus Villa 1936 is a stunning midcentury home located in Konstancin-Jeziorna, Poland, redesigned in 2020 by Loft Kolasiński . Description Exactly in the year of the Bauhaus centenary celebrations, we were asked to do a comprehensive interior design of an unusual house in Konstancin-Jeziorna. This house is a typical Bauhaus style villa built in 1936. Several characteristic features in the architecture of the building suggest that its author could have been Lucjan Korngold, but no documentation that could confirm it has survived. On the ground floor of the house, there is a living room with a study area, a fireplace area, a kitchen with a small dining area and pantry, a large dining room with a sitting area and a small bathroom. On the first floor, there is a library, a guest room, a bedroom, a dressing room and a bathroom. After a major renovation, the interior of the building remained unfinished. So it was necessary to design a staircase, a fireplace, interior wo

House EB by Monovolume Architecture + Design

House EB is a contemporary residence located Bolzano, Italy, designed in 2020 by Monovolume Architecture + Design . Description On the hills on the south-west side of the province of Bolzano, along the renowned wine route, amidst vineyards and small forests, one can admire original private villas built in recent years. In the 1950s and 1960s, after the Second World War, many citizens moved from the city center to these hills to enjoy greater peace and an exclusive view of the surrounding peaks. This is the scenery in which Villa EB is set. Villa EB is a semi-detached residence created after a complex renovation of a old villa built in the early 1960s. Although the previous residence had high living standards and it was built with top-quality materials and finishes, it however showed all the limitations of a house designed according to the canons of the time, for example: a very closed envelope, with a very low ratio between glass surfaces and solid walls, with few vie

Casa Mo by Laura Ortín Arquitectura

Casa Mo is a modern apartment located in Murcia, Spain, designed in 2021 by Laura Ortín Arquitectura . Description The project was conceived just when our bodies and after a few days our minds were confined. Could this new house hold up another confinement? We wonder. This will be perhaps from now on the new question to project. Because if an architecture is good because it is flexible, bright and healthy, it will endure confinement and any future situation. Because it will be adaptive, evolutionary and caring. We find a flat from the 80s in the center of the city. Extremely compartmentalized and organized with hierarchical spaces typical of another era, of another way of living. Natural light was paralyzed too soon, circulations forced too unnatural movements and the different rooms were for only one activity. Three things were the obsession to solve: outdoor space (more terrace), flexibility of use (interchangeable rooms), self-care spaces (teleworking, relaxation
