Catherine House by ITN Architects

This project is an extension and renovation to an Edwardian timber house built in the early 1900’s in Abbotsford, an inner suburb of Melbourne. The new building at the rear of the house is in part one and two storeys and forms a large open plan kitchen, living, dining area with a fireplace and slatted timber storage cage stair incorporating a remnant brick fireplace.








Description

The owner of this house is the second generation of a family to have engaged ITN Architects to design a house for them, having completed a new house for the parents around 20 years ago. So the client has spent most of their life in an ITN designed house and will continue to do so in the future

The predominant materials used inside and out are largely subdued in character and are done in a simple gray and white palette and are set off against a natural finish concrete floor, timber stair and kitchen, and a gray brick fireplace.

The skillion roof at the rear dominates the internal space and reflects the variety of roof forms in the area. The old timber house at the front has been stripped bare and completely renovated and upgraded throughout including new bathrooms and new side windows.
